About The Thirsty Learner.
A place for learning, making, and having a go - at your own pace.
The Thirsty Learner started from a simple idea: it’s never too late to try something new. To learn a skill, pick up a hobby, or sit round a table just because it feels good to do so.
Over time it’s grown into creative workshops and regular making sessions where you don’t have to be “good” at anything. You can come as you are. Beginner, rusty, curious — it all counts.
There’s no pressure here. Just space to show up, have a go, and see what happens.
I’m shaping what comes next carefully — building workshops and gatherings that feel welcoming, relaxed and worth leaving the house for. When they’re ready, you’ll hear about them here first.
What to Expect.
If you’ve been thinking about learning something new but weren’t quite sure where to start, you’re in the right place.
Some sessions are structured workshops led by experienced guest tutors who share their skills in a supportive, down-to-earth way. Others — like our regular gatherings — are more relaxed meet-ups where we learn alongside one another, swap ideas, and enjoy the process.
You don’t need experience. You don’t need to be “creative”. You just need a bit of curiosity.
There’s usually a kettle on, tables laid out with interesting materials, and people at different stages of trying things out. Some are complete beginners. Some are picking something up again after years away. Everyone fits in.
You can ask questions. You can take your time. You can laugh at the wonky first attempt. That’s part of it.
If you’re feeling a little unsure, that’s completely normal. Most people are the first time. And they’re always glad they came.
